Wix

Flash websites are common in the entertainment and gaming industries, and have been for a number of years now. Other types of businesses (artists, photographers, and others) have been picking up on the trend – many however cannot afford to have a Flash website developed for them by a professional designer, but are still interested in gaining off of the features and benefits a Flash site has to offer. This is where Wix comes in.

Wix is a website builder that allows users to select from a number of templates (free or premium) and input their own information into the template in order to customize it to fit their needs.

In order to get started you will first need to create an account and decide whether or not you would like to have a paid account or a free account. Of course the features and options of free accounts are fewer than a paid account, but the option to go free is still available, and upgrades are available at any time for $4.99 a month and up, depending on the options you choose.

Building your website

Once you have created your account and chosen your account type you are ready to get started creating your first website with Wix. This first step in creating your website is selecting a template. Wix had a wide variety of templates to choose from, and you can sort them by categories such as business, social media, or ecommerce.

Next you will need to input your data and content into the website builder in order to make your website uniquely yours. The Wix website builder allows you to edit the existing filler content on a template, or start with a blank template and create your website from there. Using the builder’s tools and options you can add text, images, and more. With a drag and drop interface, Wix makes it easy to get your website up and running in no time at all!

Once you have finished placing your data into the website builder, you can preview your work by clicking the “Preview” button in the builder’s interface. This will show you what your website will look like once it has been published. If you like what you see, you can publish your website right now. If you see a few things you would like to change before you hit the “Publish” button, you can return to your previous screen and continue your edits.

There are a lot of options when it comes to building a website with Wix, and this can be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. Having a lot of options is great as it allows for customization and uniqueness, but a lot of options can also make it extremely difficult to settle on the ones that you want to be a part of your completed website.

Figuring things out

If you are using Wix for the first time there are a variety of resources available to help you. The help center is available through their website, or simply by pressing the “help” button on the site builder interface. Once there you will have a variety of options to choose from, including the “Get Started section, a “How To” library, a collection of hints on publishing your website, and a contact section which allows you to ask a question directly.

Wix is not overly difficult to use, but can be a bit confusing for someone who has never worked with it before. While you are creating a Flash website, the Wix website builder is really not that different from any other drag and drop website builder out there today. Even someone with little to no technical knowledge should be able to create a site using Wix within a few hours. And if there is any trouble along the way, Wix offers several options to help get you back on track.

Upgrading your account

If you decide to start off with a free account, you have the option to upgrade at any time. If you choose to do so, you can expect enjoy benefits such as having your own domain name as opposed to a Wix subdomain, removal of all ads from your website, premium customer support, and the option to install things like Google Analytics to help improve your website’s traffic and profitability. You will also have the option to accept free advertising credits from Facebook and Google, and a year’s worth of free web hosting as well.

In Summary

Wix is one of the best website builders out there for Flash websites. No one can deny that Flash website looks great and offer some amazing potential for interactivity on the web. And because Wix offers free accounts, there is nothing stopping a web user from signing up and giving the service a try!

  1. I’ve used a couple different website builders – by far Wix is the best. There was a little bit of a learning curve, but in the end you get a much better looking website!

  2. if you’re comfortable with computers at all you’ll be able to setup a site at wix.
